MakeItOut is built and run by a one-person team. Using the app is free. By using it, you agree to a few simple things.

Be reasonable

Don't use MakeItOut to harass other users, scrape data, send spam, or do anything illegal. Don't try to break the system on purpose. We can suspend or delete accounts that violate this.

Your content

Trip names, ideas, votes, expenses, and other content you create belong to you. By posting it to a trip, you grant us a limited license to display it to the other members of that trip. We don't claim ownership and we won't repurpose your content elsewhere.

Money

Expenses in MakeItOut are a ledger. We track who paid what, but we don't move any money for expense splits.

Deposits are different. Where a trip has deposits turned on, paying yours goes through Stripe. Stripe holds the money on our platform account, not the organizer's. When the trip starts and the organizer settles up, your deposit is refunded to you if you went. If you drop out of the trip before it starts, your deposit isn't refunded to you; it goes to the trip organizer to help cover trip costs instead. Paying a deposit adds a processing fee on top, 5% for a card or 2.5% for a bank transfer. That fee is not refunded, even when your deposit is. This feature is still rolling out and may not be available on every trip yet. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy apply to any payment you make through it.

MakeItOut doesn't charge for using the app itself. We make money two ways: the deposit processing fee above, and a commission we may earn when you book through certain partner links shown in the app (like Viator, Booking.com, Hostelworld, or LiteAPI). Booking through one of those links costs you the same either way; the commission comes from the partner, not from you.

Availability

We aim to keep MakeItOut online but don't guarantee uptime, and we're not responsible for trips that go sideways because the app was down.

Age

MakeItOut is meant for people 13 and older. By using it, you're confirming you meet that.

Changes

If we ever materially change these terms, we'll notify you via email before the change takes effect.
