Privacy

MakeItOut is a small group-trip planning app built by a one-person team. This page describes what we actually collect and who actually sees it. We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers or brokers.

What we collect

When you sign up with email, Google, or Apple, we store your email, display name, username, avatar, and profile color. Any signed-in MakeItOut user can see your name, username, avatar, and color, not just people on your trips. If you set a home base (your city), it's visible only to you.

When you create or join a trip, we store the trip's details: destination, dates, plans, votes, and expenses, plus any photos or receipts you choose to add. Coordinates for places you or your group add to the trip's map are stored precisely, not rounded. We also store your friend connections and an activity log of who did what on a trip, so the group can catch up.

Analytics

We use PostHog to see how the app is actually used. It's tied to your account, not anonymous, and it records session replays so we can see where things break. Every replay masks what you type and blurs on-screen text; we don't see the words. We also send anonymous page-view counts to Vercel Analytics and performance timing to Vercel Speed Insights. When something crashes, we send the error, and sometimes a short recording of the screen right before it, to Sentry, our error-tracking tool.

Other companies that touch your data

Supabase hosts our database, in the United States. Vercel hosts the app. Google and Apple handle sign-in if you use them. Stripe processes deposit payments (see Money in our terms). If you scan a photo to prefill a card, like a receipt or a boarding pass, the image is sent to Anthropic's API to read it and is never stored on our servers. If you paste a link, the page's text is sent to Anthropic to pull out details like price and dates. MapTiler serves our map tiles directly to your browser. Open-Meteo provides weather forecasts, which means your browser sends it your destination and travel dates. Unsplash powers cover photo search. If you tap through to a booking partner we work with (Viator, Booking.com, Hostelworld, or LiteAPI), we may earn a commission; it doesn't change your price.

What we don't do

We don't read your phone's contacts. We don't collect your device's location. There's no ad SDK anywhere in the app. We don't send push notifications today, so there's nothing to turn off. And, as above, we never sell your data.

Cookies

PostHog sets a cookie and a browser storage entry so it can tie your activity together. We don't use cookies for ads or to track you across other websites.

Your rights

You can delete your account from inside the app (Profile → Delete account). That removes your profile, your votes, your expenses, and your friend connections. If you created a trip other people are still on, the trip is handed to another member instead of deleted; if you were the only one on it, the trip is deleted too.

Email us at hello@makeitout.app to request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask us to delete your account for you. We aim to respond within a week.

Age

MakeItOut is meant for people 13 and older. If you're younger than that, please don't use it.

Changes

If we ever materially change how we handle data, we'll notify you via email before the change takes effect.
